18C225 - Hand Built Stoneware Projects (Two Weekends)

18C225 - Hand Built Stoneware Projects (Two Weekends)

Nationally known ceramic artist Bruce Howdle will take you step by step through a creative journey hand building stoneware clay projects such as large platters with animal drawings, bas relief figures and faces, dimensional sculpture and more. Begin on a Friday evening when you get started with clay and instruction. Night owls can work as late as they wish in Shake Rag Alley’s Sardeson Studio. You’ll continue Saturday and Sunday working alongside Bruce on your project, getting the clay and design formed and trimmed. Your piece will dry thoroughly over the next week, and Bruce will do the first (bisque) firing in his electric kilns. During the second weekend you’ll return to glaze your pieces. Time permitting, make more pieces to be fired later and glazed during one of the Open Studio/Lab weekends (see Schedule of Open Studio dates). Bruce will do the final high temp firing of glazed pieces in the kiln behind the studio and make arrangements for you to pick up your completed stoneware pieces. Materials fee includes 25 lbs of clay (more available for purchase from Bruce), plus kiln firings and use of stains, glazes, and tools.
