Joan Darling JOAN DARLING: Emmy and Director’s Guild Award-winning actress and director, Joan created the “Directing the Actor” workshop for Robert Redford’s Sundance Institute, where she has served as creative advisor for the past 16 years. Regarded as one of the finest acting coaches in the business, her directing credits include MASH, Mary Tyler Moore, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, Magnum PI, Doc, Rich Man, Poor Man, Rhoda, Spielberg’s Amazing Stories. In addition to starring roles on stage and television and picking up another Emmy for acting, she appeared for four years in the award-winning improvisational production, The Premise with Gene Hackman and George Segal. She has taught at UCLA, USC, American Film Institute, and of U of North Carolina.

Bill Svanoe

BILL SVANOE: Award-winning screenwriter and playwright, Bill launched his career by writing the #1 hit song “Walk Right In.” His screenwriting credits include Returning Home (Tom Selleck), Miles to Go (Martin Balsam), which won the Christopher Award for Outstanding Writing, Terror on the Beach (Dennis Weaver), Waltz Across Texas (Ann Archer), and Fatal Beauty (Whoopie Goldberg). He also wrote Sparks (Victoria Principal), Seduced by Evil (Suzanne Sommers), and Superdome (David Jansen) and for TV series The Six Million Dollar Man and Grif. Bill’s first play won New Playwright awards in New York and Holland. He teaches at the University of North Carolina and his new play, Lost and Found, premieres August 8 in Mineral Point.

Blake Bradford

BLAKE BRADFORD is a NYC-based writer/director who is currently on the writing/script staff for Showtime at the Apollo (NBC), Live at Lincoln Center (PBS), Drama Desk Awards (PBS) and Tony Awards (CBS). Blake’s first full length film, Welcome to the Rutters, is scheduled to begin production in Fall 2008. He co-foundied the NYC theatre company Phare Play Productions, where he now serves as Artistic Director. Blake’s original plays are actively seen in the regional circuits and have all been produced in NYC. Blake has directed Ms. Darling in Mr. Svanoe’s Pants on Fire, Callback, The Last Silver Zephyer, and The Last Laugh. NYC directing credits include The Twilight of the Golds, Snake in Fridge, Callback, The Cherry Orchard, The Tempest (with Ms. Darling and Kerry Shear), and the multiple award-winning revival of Dark of the Moon.

Matt Klan

MATT KLAN: Matt is a writer and fight choreographer based out of New York City. His choreography has been described as “extremely visceral” and praised for its storytelling ability. Projects featuring his choreography have won various awards including OOBR Audience Award and the Warner Brothers Production Award for Excellence. Matt holds a teaching license for Secondary Education in New York State, is certified proficient in six of the eight officially recognized stage weapons and has had additional training in Tae Kwon Do, western boxing, Escrima and Lightsaber. In addition, Matt is a staff writer at National Lampoon and is a contributor to the New York Times technology video section.

KERRY SHEAR KERRY SHEAR: Professional actress and acting coach, Kerry studied with Lee Strasberg in New York and Los Angeles and taught acting and sense memory at the Strasberg Institute in Los Angeles for many years. She has appeared in film and television (The Waltons, The Hitchhikers, Divorce Court, Unsolved Mysteries) and in leading roles in numerous stage productions, including Love Letters, Hopscotch, Cowards, Waiting for the Word, Commitment of Bob, The Woods, Glass Menagerie. Her commercial credits include Xerox, Mattel Toys, Hallmark Cards, and more. She is a lifetime member of the the Actors Studio and a founding member of the Los Angeles Actors Theater.

JEFFERY WEST JEFFERY WEST: Actor, director, producer. Jeff’s TV credits include NBC’s episodic Surface, the Knowledge series, One Tree Hill, Dawson’s Creek, All My Children and The Guiding Light. His film credits include: The Dangerous Lives of Altarboys, Brookfield, and Woody Allen’s Crimes and Misdemeanors. He has worked extensively in live theater as actor, director, and producer. He served as the Artistic Director of the Raleigh Ensemble Players, Chair of the Professional Division of the North Carolina Theatre Conference, and President of the Triangle Network of Theatres. He has taught at UNC Chapel Hill, St. Mary’s College, Peace College, for REP, and 13 years as Senior Lecturing Fellow in Theater Studies at Duke University.

JOHN HANSON: Award-winning Director/Producer/Screenwriter and a veteran of independent film. Selected credits include the dramatic features Northern Lights (Camera D’Or Award at the Cannes International Film Festival), Wildrose (New Directors/New Films Series) and Shimmer (Crystal Heart Award, Heartland Film Festival), the television special Talking Pictures (Regional Emmy), the documentary Sisters (PBS series, Independent Lens) and a new documentary feature, Drums of Passion, slated for release in 2008. He was selected as a directing fellow at the Sundance Institute, has led filmmaking workshops at numerous colleges and universities and has been a frequent panelist at film festivals and seminars in the U.S. and abroad.

MIKE WILEY: Actor and playwright Mike Wiley, MFA University of North Carolina, blends art and education in his inspired one-man performances for young audiences plus film, television, and regional theater. His overriding goal is expanding cultural awareness for audiences of all ages through dynamic portrayals based on pivotal moments in African-American history. His expanding repertoire of original productions brings to life multiple characters of broadly varying age, gender, and race. His performances actively engage audiences, continually bringing surprising, unexpected elements of participation and discovery to the theatrical experience.
