INTRO TO SILVERSMITHING
Kay Rashka
Saturday, June 28, 2008
9am—4pm

Get all the information needed to set up a metalsmithing workspace that will enable you to complete basic jewelry projects with non-ferrous metals such as silver, copper, and brass. Class will cover suggested tools and safety instruction for basic metal work 'without the use of solder'. You will choose your own class project but demonstrations will include sawing flat silver sheet, forging wire, sanding, doming, stamping, piercing and finishing. Flexible shafts will be provided for use in workshop, as well as copper for practice work. Flat sheet silver and wire will be available for purchase for a final project. You may optionally bring beads (hole size at least capable of stringing 0.018inch diameter wire) which can be incorporated into a pair of earrings. Time permitting you may be able to also complete small projects such as beading wire (making headpins), preparing bracelet/necklace clasps, making bead caps, cutting out charms/pendants and constructing earring wrapped loops. Students will purchase a supplies kit of materials needed for class from the instructor for an estimated cost of $20.
