Sharon Stauffer

Yep, we’re going to make jewelry charms from those little odds and ends that accumulate in your desk drawer, tool chest, sewing kit, toy chest, wherever. Sharon will show you how to make nifty charms using inexpensive craft materials, introduce you to some great craft techniques, and teach you basic jewelry attachment methods, then turn you loose on her collection of doodads...or you are welcome to bring your own. The object can be the charm just as is, or drill it, distress it, alter it, embellish it. Anything goes! Use your charms for a charm bracelet, as necklace pendants, or even as earring dangles.

Student Supply List:
All necessary supplies are furnished, but you are encouraged to bring some of your own doodads. Think game pieces, puzzles, sewing notions, old jewelry components, small hardware items, keys, tags, Barbie accessories, buttons, guitar picks...you get the picture. If we can figure out a way to attach it, it’s fair game! Also bring any beads you would like to use to embellish your charms. Silver colored wire and findings will be supplied but if you prefer a different color you may bring your own.
There will be tools to share, but if you have them, please bring round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, and jewelry wire cutters. (Inexpensive beginner sets from the craft store are fine.)
Sharon Stauffer is a Mineral Point mixed media artist. She enjoys doing representational graphite pencil drawings, not-so-representational collage and assemblages, and dabbling in some of the “alternative” art forms such as altered books and mixed media works incorporating non-traditional art materials. She is on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association and organizes the annual Mineral Point Wisconsin Regional Art Association (WRAP) workshop and exhibit. Her work has been published in Cloth Paper Scissor magazine and she has also demonstrated fountain building on Wisconsin Public TV’s “Wisconsin Gardener” show. Her work can be seen during the regional Fall Art Tour at her home studio.
