Want to give welding a try? Learn the process of cutting and welding mild steel that would give you the basics for working on steel sculptural assemblages. There are three types of welding equipment: oxyacetylene torch, arc welder, electric wire feed. In this class Denny will teach you the use of oxyacetylene for cutting and welding steel. You'll draw shapes on metal and cut them out, then weld pieces together into three dimensional small sculptures. Denny can answer all your questions about welding including the kinds and costs of equipment for your own studio. Wear cotton clothes, leather shoes.
Materials fee of $5-20 due to instructor at class time.

Student Supply List:
Please wear cotton clothing and leather shoes. Bring safety glasses if you have them. We will supply special safety glasses for welding.
Dennis McKernan’s interest in blacksmithing and welding has been a boon to Shake Rag Alley. We received a generous grant in 2008 to upgrade the barn into a blacksmith teaching unit, and Dennis has been key to that accomplishment. He provided much of the equipment, organized the barn, set up all the tools, directed repairs, and assisted all the blacksmiths to set up for their classes. He also acquired welding equipment, designated the electrical additions needed, and began teaching what he enjoys most, sculptural welding. He lives in Mineral Point.
