17A645 - Beginning Shuttle Tatting

This class is ideal for beginners seeking an experienced teacher to guide them through the basics of shuttle tatting, a Victorian lace craft that is enjoying a resurgence of popularity. You'll learn how to make the basic knot of tatting (double stitch), the decorative loops (picots), the characteristic oval shapes (rings) and curved lines (chains). This workshop will help you develop the basic skills that may seem hard at first, but once learned are very easy and fun to do. Although you will not finish a project in this basic class, the practice bits can be used to embellish note cards, enhance scrapbook pages, or adorn any project that needs a little something extra special. Class fee includes a kit with all necessary supplies.

Level: Beginner and above

Student Supply List:
Please bring scissors.

Tuition $95
Materials Fee $10

Marilee Rockley has been tatting over 40 years, having discovered tatting as a girl when she found a small needlework how-to book stashed among her mother's art books. Between those sketchy instructions, library books, and trial and error, she soon taught herself and fell in love with the art. She has been designing and selling tatted jewelry since 2004. She is the author of 2 pattern books published by Annie's Catalog: Tatting With Beads Jewelry published 2016, and Tatted Jewelry published 2011. She has written 3 self-published books and numerous PDF patterns as well. Marilee also hand dyes unique cotton threads. Her work is sold online at and she is also the instructor of 2 shuttle tatting courses at
