Denny Neubauer

Denny Neubauer started carving over 30 years ago. As he likes to put it, “I’m in my 30th year of apprenticeship.” He’s a curious guy who never stops learning new things. Using a little “backyard ingenuity” he taught himself how to make his first carving knife in 1991 because he felt the knives on the market were too expensive. When health issues forced him to leave his regular work in the construction business, he began making knives and tools and teaching woodcarving and knife sharpening seminars for a living. His knife business became very successful, and he has been creating excellent woodcarving knives and tools ever since. Strongly influenced by Harley Refsal’s flat plane carving style, Denny calls his own style “my square approach to round carving.” Now retired, Denny spends his time developing innovative workshops and traveling the country taking classes and teaching classes in carving and knifemaking.
