Shibori is the Japanese art of creating pattern on fabric through binding, stitching, folding, and twisting during the dyeing process. Intricate patterns, texture, and color blending takes place as color is layered through multiple dye applications. Color is further enhanced through the use of discharge (color removal) and overdye.

Create lovely designs on silk in this three-day workshop and learn basic traditional techniques as well as contemporary variations of Shibori. The three-day schedule offers the opportunity to learn the basics and expand on those with deeper, more complex color blending and patterning through multiple dye applications, discharge, and overdye.

Level: Novice and above

Student Supply List:
All materials and supplies are included in your materials fee, but please bring some old towels and a hairdryer. Be sure to “dress for mess,” expecting to get messy and wet. Wear old clothes as dyes will permanently stain if you get some on your clothing.

Tuition $325
Materials Fee $45
