18A432 - Carving Relief Scenes or Human Figures

Learn the ins and outs of carving landscape relief scenes with Dylan Goodson. Dylan’s dynamic carvings are highly regarded and have garnered many top awards in national competitions. Using Dylan's Lighthouse Farms design (14" x 8.5" x 2"), you will have the opportunity to learn about perspective, layering, textures and the illusion of depth, among other things. More experienced carvers can choose to carve the lighthouse seaside scene version of the design.

For those interested in learning to carve the human face and body, Dylan will be offering a bust inspired by Rodin's The Thinker. The size of the bust will be approximately 12” tall and will present the opportunity to learn about carving the head, face, and hands.

Level: Beginner and above

Student Supply List:
Students will be using individual carving stands provided by Dylan and should bring their own carving tools. Dylan prefers intermediate or mallet-sized tools and a mallet; although palm tools will work and can be very useful. Rough-outs will range in price from $30 to $55, depending on project.

Tuition $270
Materials Fee $30-$55
for rough-outs (payable to instructor at class time)
