19R170L - Drawing for Artists of All Levels

Frustrated that your drawing skills are stunting your creativity? Join artist Jane Wilcoxson as she ushers you through sketching and rendering exercises that will loosen up your flow allowing you to get ideas on paper. We will look at the serendipity of our sketches and develop workable compositions that can later be spun into paintings.

Gesture and blind gesture drawing and how to use a sketchbook to collect ideas will be covered. The class will spend some time out and about the historic city of Mineral Point developing sketching skills. The idea is to learn the working process and skills that your instructor and many professional artists use to tap into their inner creativity.

Classical drawing techniques will be taught during our classroom time, which will involve working with still life material. You will learn to measure proportions, understand the use of reference points, render tonal value by observing highlights, halftones, core shadow and reflective light, understand line and mark making. Plus we will learn reductive drawing skills by creating a ground with charcoal to work in reverse by removing tonal value with an eraser.

The class will boost your drawing skills and your artistic confidence.

Level: Beginner and above
